Sense of Scarcity in Global Talent Continues to Grow, Hitting Record High for Second Month Running

**The December 2017 Global Job-opening-to-application Ratio is 2.53**


 Daijob Global Recruiting Co. Ltd (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuji Shinohara), a subsidiary of Human Holdings Co. Ltd, which operates the bilingual job search site Daijob.com, summarized the global job-opening-to-application ratio as of the end of December 2017.
※The global job-opening-to-application ratio expresses the supply-demand balance for job openings for bilingual job seekers (with at least two languages) with business level skills (job-opening-to-application ration= = job openings ÷ job seekers)

 The December 2017 global job-opening-to-application ratio jumped 0.35 points from the previous month to 2.53, hitting a record high for the second consecutive month. While corporate recruitment levels have remained steady, the ratio has increased due to a drop in the number of job seekers in areas such as service and retail.

Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio by Industry

 Looking at the global job-opening-to-application ratio by industry, the top three for December are: Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Mining; Manufacturing; and Finance, Insurance. Of the 12 industries in the survey, the ratio rose in eight: Wholesale, Retail; Accommodation and Food Services; Finance, Insurance; Construction, Real Estate, Goods Rental and Leasing; Medical and Social Welfare; Academic Research, Professional and Technical Services, Education, Learning Support; Service; and Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Mining.
 The number of job seekers increased from the previous month in the following three industries: Accommodation and Food Services; Construction, Real Estate, Goods Rental and Leasing; and Electric Utilities, Gas, Heating, Water Supply.

 Looking at the global job-opening-to-application ratio by industry, the top three for December are Medical/Pharmaceutical/Bio/Material/Food; Electronics (Appliance/Semiconductor); and Sales. Proving that the shortage of manpower is getting more serious, the following six job categories reported their highest rates of 2017: Executive/ Management; IT Technical Systems; Finance/Accounting; Customer Service; Sales; and Distribution, Retails, Customer Goods, Fashion.
