Even with Fiscal Year End and Calming of Career Change Activity, Favorable Market Conditions Continue for Job Seekers

***The March 2018 Global Job Opening to Application Ratio is 1.70***


 Daijob Global Recruiting Co. Ltd (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuji Shinohara), a subsidiary of Human Holdings Co. Ltd, which operates the bilingual job search site Daijob.com, summarized the global job-opening-to-application ratio as of the end of March 2018.
※The global job-opening-to-application ratio expresses the supply-demand balance for job openings for bilingual job seekers (with at least two languages) with business level skills (job-opening-to-application ration= = job openings ÷ job seekers)

 With a decline in job seekers at the end of the fiscal year as applicants finalize their choice of new jobs for April, the March global job-opening-to-application ratio dropped 20 points from the previous month to 1.70. However, the ratio is 0.35 point higher than March 2017, which was 1.35, indicating favorable market conditions overall for job seekers.

Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio by Industry

 Looking at the global job-opening-to-application ratio by industry, the top-three industries in March were Medical and Social Welfare; Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Mining; and Finance, Insurance. The number of job offers has increased from the previous month in the following seven industries: Manufacturing; Finance, Insurance; Construction, Real Estate, Goods Rental and Leasing; Telecommunications; Medical and Social Welfare; Service; and Agriculture and Forestry, Fisheries, and Mining.
 Additionally, the number of job seekers has increased in industries such as Manufacturing (up 11.8% from that of the previous month), Accommodation and Food Services (up 20.9%), and Telecommunications (up 21.2%).

Global Job-Opening-to-Application Ratio by Job Category

 Looking at the global job-opening-to-application ratio by job category, the top three categories in March were Medical/Pharmaceutical/Bio/Material/Food; Electronics (Appliance/Semiconductor); and General Affairs/Human Resources/Legal Affairs.
 The number of job offers has increased in the following eight categories: IT Technical Systems; Medical/Pharmaceutical/Bio/Material/Food; Marketing / Public Relations; Sales; Education/Training/Languages; Property/Real Estate Assets/Real Estate; Creative (Internet related); Creative (Advertisement/Publication/Broadcast/Publication/Video/Other).
 Meanwhile, the number of job seekers increased in categories such as Executive/Management, with an increase of 82.5% from that of the previous month, Consulting (up 35.3%), and Hotel/Leisure/Dining Services/Tourism (up 19.4%). In the Executive/Management category in particular, applicants tend to leave jobs at the end of the fiscal year and first half of the new fiscal year, which is why the number of job seekers has increased substantially.
