Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio – October 2013

Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio 1.31
“Doctors/Medical Experts/Biologists/Material Specialists/Nutritionists” and “Managers/HR Professionals/Legal Staff” Hold Very High Ratios at 5.0 and 4.65 Respectively

The operators of bilingual job board Daijob.com, Daijob Global Recruiting Co.,Ltd, have created a summary of the Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio for the end of October 2013. The Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio is a calculation of the supply-demand balance between job openings which require business conversation level in at least 2 languages and the number of job-seekers who are equipped with that ability.

◆Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio by Occupation (For jobs requiring at least business level Japanese and English)

Daijob.com calculated the balance of job-seekers with business level Japanese and English with the number of job openings which require these skills in each occupation.

At 5.0, the highest ratio was observed in the collective “Doctors/Medical Experts/Biologists/Material Specialists/Nutritionists” occupation category, followed by “Managers/HR Professionals/Legal Staff” at 4.65, and “Mechanical Engineers (Automobiles/Plants/Precision Equipment)” at 3.54. The ratios of the top 3 are all very high. The main cause for this was not a dramatic increase in job postings compared with the previous two months, but the fact that there were only a few people appropriate for the position.

Another cause was also that this month's debutant to the Top 3 “Mechanical Engineers (Automobiles/Plants/Precision Equipment)” saw a relative increase in job postings in that category including “Designers/CAD Designers” and “Project Managers”.
Also standing out from the crowd was the category “Managers/HR Professionals/Legal Staff”, which has been in the top 3 every month from August to October. An increase in jobs relating to “Compliance” and “Human Resources (Hiring)” has contributed to its ranking. This may be due to a need for people with experience in administration in addition to having some sort of language ability as companies continue to globalize.

◆Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio by Industry (For jobs requiring at least business level Japanese and English)

Daijob.com also calculated the balance of job-seekers with business level Japanese and English with the number of job openings which require these skills in each industry.

Here, the highest ratio was seen in the “Electricity/Gas/Heat Supply/Water Utility” industry at 6.0. This was followed by “Manufacturing” at 2.52 and “Architecture/Real Estate/Rental Services” at 2.05. The main cause behind the top ranking of “Electricity/Gas/Heat Supply/Water Utility” was the fact that there was a great increase in postings for positions relating to electricity, gas, crude oil and energy. Although the ratio for “Architecture/Real Estate/Rental Services” greatly increased, this was due to a big increase in the number of job postings while the number of relevant job-seekers remained consistent.
