Global Job-Opening-to-Application Ratio Drops for the First Time in Five Months Due to Surge in Motivated Job Seekers

**The January global job opening-to-application ratio is 1.56***


 Daijob Global Recruiting Co. Ltd (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuji Shinohara), a subsidiary of Human Holdings Co. Ltd, which operates the bilingual job search site Daijob.com, summarized the global job-opening-to-application ratio as of the end of January 2018.
※The global job-opening-to-application ratio expresses the supply-demand balance for job openings for bilingual job seekers (with at least two languages) with business level skills (job-opening-to-application ration= = job openings ÷ job seekers)

 The January 2018 global job opening-to-application ratio decreased 0.97 points from the previous month to 1.56—the first drop in five months. While the number of job openings has mostly remained steady, the low rate is due to a 55.8% increase in job seekers.

Global Job Openings to Job-Seekers Ratio by Industry

 Looking at the global job-opening-to-application ratio by industry, the top-three industries in January were Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Mining; Electric Utilities, Gas, Heating, Water Supply; and Finance, Insurance. Due to an increase in job seekers, the global job-opening-to-application ratio has declined in all industries with the exception of Electric Utilities, Gas, Heating, Water Supply.
 Out of the 12 industries, the number of job offers has increased from the previous month in five: Finance, Insurance; Transportation and Postal; Medical and Social Welfare; Service; and Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Mining.

Global Job-Opening-to-Application Ratio by Job Category

 Looking at the global job-opening-to-application ratio by job category, the top-three categories in January were Medical/Pharmaceutical/Bio/Material/Food; Finance/Accounting; and Electronics (Appliance/Semiconductor). The number of job seekers has increased in almost all categories, with notable increases of 80.4% from that of the previous month in Education/Training/Language Studies and 77.5% from that of the previous month in IT Technical Systems.
 Of the 22 job categories, the number of job offers has increased in the following seven: Electronics (Appliance/Semiconductor); General Affairs/Human Resources/Legal Affairs; Administrative; Consulting; Hotel/Leisure/Dining Services/Tourism; Created (Internet related); Government /Public Sector/Other.
